Designing A Logo

So my dad asked me to come up with a new name and logo for his photography company. After much thought, I came up with Paper Windmill, like those little fans I used to make when I was kid. Its simple, elegant, fun, and definitely something I thought could easily be branded.

1. Sketches.
After looking up lots of pinwheel pictures online, I started to sketch out what I generally wanted. Luckily, pinwheels are very simple so it didn’t take too long to figure out what I wanted it to look like. _C4A0807
2. Draw it in Illustrator.
So once it was sketched out, I started drawing it in Illustrator. I wanted it perfectly symmetrical so it was just a matter of drawing one blade, duplicating it, and finally repositioning it. Eventually I got something I was pretty happy with.

3. Add some colour.
Once I established the shape, I started to mess around with colours and its positioning. But it wasn’t quite right. designing2
4. Refine it. Add depth. Choose nice colours.
Eventually I went back to changing its shape to something more curvy and organic. Applied shadows. Then gave it some vivid colours. designing3
5. Take a moment.
I like it!

6. Add text.
Once I was happy with the logo, I brought it into photoshop, gave it some text, and showed my dad.

7. Gain dad’s approval. Relax.
Success! Rest easy. Watch Parks and Rec.

Imagine – Short Film

Imagine is a short film created by Jack Phillips, myself, and classmates from Centennial College. This project was very fun to shoot and I have to thank the entire cast and crew for making it so enjoyable. This was the first time Jack and I actually held a casting call and we were so pleased to have Romaine, Carys, and Mac on board with our little project. My friend Aaron, a talented musician, was kind enough to write us an original score for our short. You can find the download links after the video.
